Ukidding?????

(Written in 2003 things may have changed but I doubt it!)

As you may well know we are moving.... So on January 10 I booked online a reservation with Uhaul for a truck and a trailer.... Well as it turns out we had more stuff then we could fit so I booked a second truck from a different company ( thank god) and cancelled the trailer....

Jan 30th  I called to increase the number of furniture pads and to see if I could get the pickup confirmed since I was going to be in Toronto today signing all the paperwork for the new house and to attend a funeral..... They said sure you can increase the number of pads but there is no way we can let you know everything is OK... (Although they did have the trailer off the order)

Jan 31st  at 2:15 this afternoon I get a call from Linda at the head office... She says that she won't have a truck for me in Barrie but that she has one for me in Parry Sound ( 2hrs and 150 km away) and that if I will go get the truck they will extend my km and give me a whopping $50 off... and that she should call me as soon as I can....

Of course I don't get in until 7:30 and when I call she asks me how I'm doing... DUH she and her company just screwed my weekend and potentially my move and my real estate deal.....

I said that I was "pissed" her response "don't talk to me that way... I know moving is stressful but there is no excuse for language like that"...

She must've told me 50 times that she was sorry... Well lady if you are so sorry why don't you drive to Parry Sound and get me the truck and keep your $50  Evidently she really isn't that sorry...

Anybody who knows me knows that I am a reasonable person... If U-haul had of told me that my truck had been involved in an accident or had been stolen or was mechanically unfit I would have understood... But their explanation was that they just don't have enough trucks in the area.....  Like da, isn't that why you have reservations??? Tell me 3 weeks ago and I would have found another truck... But take my reservation and I think a have a reasonable expectation of getting a truck....

February 1st....

Well Uhaul apparently feels they have fulfilled their obligation because they have offered us a truck... However they would also feel that they have fulfilled their obligation if the nearest truck was 500 or 5000 Kilometres away.... And they see no problem with this... When you have to explain to someone in customer service what customer service is I don't thing there is really a point....

February 5th...

Ok with the move done here are the final details...

I rented two trucks one from Uhaul and the other from Ryder... The Uhaul was a one way the Ryder went both ways (almost 600 KM)

The Ryder was a 24ft diesel with a lift gate and went both ways it cost 393.97 to rent and  we put $75  fuel into it....

The Uhaul on the other hand only went one way.... It cost 453.10 to rent and we put $115 into it for fuel...

So who was the biggest bargain  Not ...

Having rented vehicles in the past when you have a problem most places will do anything they can to help you... Not ...

bullet

Most places will call around for you and find you a replacement vehicle if the problem was theirs.... Not l...

So if you are looking for a suggestion as to where to rent a moving truck my suggestion is Not
